Spiced Apple Cider

This hot, spiced apple cider is so delicious and comforting. Made with fresh apples and oranges, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, cardamom, and maple syrup, it's the perfect drink to cozy up with on a chilly, winter night. The recipe is easy to follow and will leave your home smelling absolutely wonderful!

Equipment

  • 1 Slow cooker (see notes for stovetop or pressure cooker method)
  • Cheese cloth or fine mesh strainer

Ingredients
  

  • 8-10 apples sliced
  • 1 orange sliced
  • 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 5 whole cardamom pods
  • 1 1/2 tsp whole cloves
  • 1 star anise
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup

Instructions
 

  • Slice apples and orange.
  • Add all ingredients to slow cooker and cook on low heat for 4-6 hours.
  • Mash apples with a potato masher.
  • Place a strainer over a large bowl, line it with a cheese cloth, and pour in the contents of the slow cooker.
  • Allow the juice to strain naturally while it cools for 30 mins to an hour. Then squeeze out any remaining juice.
  • Store the cider in the fridge for up to a week and reheat before serving.

Notes

If cooking on the stove, add all ingredients to a stock pot, bring to a boil, then cover and simmer on low for 2 hours. If using an Instant Pot, use the Slow Cook setting and adjust time to 4 hours.
