Cuisine American, German, plant-based
- 1 head cabbage cut into 6 wedges
- garlic powder
- onion powder
- smoked paprika
- salt
- pepper
Garlic Butter
- 4 tbsp butter softened
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1 tbsp dried parsley
- pinch salt
Preheat oven to 400°F and heat a large cast iron skillet over medium heat.
Generously season both sides of each cabbage wedge with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Rub the seasoning into the cabbage steaks to help get all the flavor inside those layers.
Prepare the garlic butter by combining butter, garlic, dried parsley, and salt in a small bowl.
Add a drizzle of oil to your preheated cast iron skillet and place your cabbage steaks in, cut side down, and sear for 2 minutes. While they're cooking, use a basting brush to coat the tops with the garlic butter. Then, flip the steaks and sear the other side for another 2 minutes. Baste the other side with the remaining garlic butter.
Transfer the cast iron skillet to your preheated oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the cabbage steaks are well-charred and very tender.
